Annual State Fair Date Night

Tonight was mine and Brian’s annual State Fair date night.  Once a year Mom babysits the kids while Brian and I enjoy a night at the fair.  We always have a lot of fun.  To change things up a little I figure I will provide a list of the things I learned/was reminded of at the fair tonight:

1) Brian can eat a lot of food and none of it goes to his butt or thighs…no fair!

2) The fudge puppy (Belgian waffle on a stick dipped in chocolate) is my new favorite fair food.  DELICIOUS! I am going to try something new every year at the fair.

3) I swear A LOT when I play pinball.  I swear if I had a good ball, I swear if I had a bad ball and I even flick the machine off occasionally!  It is pretty funny actually. (For those of you that don’t know, pinball is the main reason we have a date night at the fair.  Brian LOVES it and we spend a few hours at the Pinball-on-a-stick booth).  I too have come to love pinball!

4) Brian is not as good at darts as he thinks he is! While trying to win a Despicable Me minion for the girls he ended up winning 5 small dolphins instead!

5) Brian isn’t above cheating if it is for his girls! Brian wasn’t satisfied with the dolphins so he tried the darts again.  This time he did what he needed to do…cheat! The lady asked how many he got and he said three (knowing well enough he only got two).  He got his first minion!

6) Brian stops at nothing to provide for his girls! Knowing he had to come home with 2 minions he set out to get the second.  Because begging did not work, he started to barter.  He offered three dolphins for a minion.  The guys said he would need to win two more to get the minion.  Luckily, he had two more dolphins in his bag!  He talked the guy into giving him a minion for the five dolphins.  And so he was able to bring two minions home for his girls…and it only cost us $36!!!!  He was very proud and this excursion provided a lot of laughs.

7) Brian thinks he should have played the song “Pinball Wizard” while he was playing.  Apparently that is his new self acclaimed title!

8) The Ooey, Gooey, fried cookie dough on a stick was not worth the wait or the $4.50.  I ditched it after a few bites rather than eating all those calories.

Thanks again to Grandma Sharon for babysitting.  It seems every year we end up coming home a few hours later than we say we will on this date night!  We just have too much fun and as Brian says, “It only happens once a year!”
