Wired!

It amazes me how much technology plays a role in the lives of the girls compared to when I was their age. The latest obsessions (and arguments!) revolve around the iPad and the computer. Katelin’s favorite thing these days is to sit and watch movies or shows on the iPad with headphones on.  She wakes up, takes the iPad into her bed, and sits and watches movies until everyone else wakes up.  The first thing she wants to do when she gets off the bus is to get a treat and watch the iPad.  The last thing she wants to do before bed is watch the iPad. Unfortunately her and Annie mostly often do not agree on the same shows so watching together is frequently not an option and thus the arguments happen.

However, lately Annie has really been into playing on the computer.  She loves to go to the Nickelodeon site and play games. It’s really fun to watch her get so excited and figure out how to maneuver through the game on her own.

Even little man loves technology.  While he would love to get his little sticky fingers on the iPad or computer as well, his obsession is the phone!  He loves walking around and “talking” on the either our cell or home phones. So much so that whenever he sees them he reaches for them saying “mine” and doesn’t want to give them back!  This is the face he usually makes when you take the phone away from him!

At least even though we have basically every video gaming console possible, those are not obsessions…YET!! I’ll consider myself lucky for now.

New Dos!

Tonight we decided to go bold and get the girls some new short haircuts for summer. I was super amazed that Annie agreed as she was adamant last time she was growing it long.  I think showing her a picture of her friend Maggie with short hair helped convince her as she really looks up to Maggie! I am thankful as the ends were starting to actually get crunchy with all the swimming we are doing lately.  It did look really cute though today with the humidity the curls really take shape.

Kate went first and at the end was pretty sad.  She didn’t like how she looked, in fact she hated it.  But, I think she has come around and now likes it!

Annie kept saying, “I LOVE it!  I look soooo cute!”  It was pretty adorable.

When we got home we took some pictures and also had a spontaneous dance party in the kitchen!

Check out James’ little fly-aways on the top of his head too – he is actually getting some hair too!  It will take a while though before we can give him an actual cut!

New Bikes = Happy Girls!

We decided this weekend it was time for the girls to pick out their own new bikes!  Annie looked a little bit like the wicked witch on her old bike as she had to peddle so fast to go anywhere.  It was quite hilarious actually!  Rather than having her get Kate’s hand-me-down like with most things we thought she deserved to go and pick out her own.  Then we realized Kate was using a 16” bike and should actually have a 20” for her height so it was time to get her a new bike too. Believe it or not, it took a little convincing to get Kate to want a new bike but in the end she was pretty excited.  Luckily we had a wonderful weekend for the girls to spend enjoying their new bikes.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Over the past week we have enjoyed listening to Katelin tell us about all the adventures of Lucky the Leprechaun at her school.  Each day she came home and had a new story to tell about the mischievous ways of Lucky.  Of course she told these with great enthusiasm and Annie can’t wait to have Lucky visit her next year in Kindergarten too!

Apparently Katelin was telling all the kids in her class a few weeks in advance that they better wear green on St. Patrick’s Day or they will get pinched by Lucky!  Amazingly, Brian nor I had never heard of this little myth but all the other kids on the bus must have as this is where she gets much of her information!

When the girls woke up today they ran into our room exclaiming that Lucky didn’t visit our house.  (They were not really happy about this!) This was the first year we had even heard about Lucky so I wasn’t really prepared to have him visit.  I learned my lesson though and next year he will be causing some chaos in our home!

Hope you all have a wonderful St. Patty’s Day.  Have a green beer (or two!) for me too.

Little Man and Mommy Time

This past weekend Jamesy and I got to spend some quality time together.  Brian was in Chicago on business and the girls were with my Mom and Scott.  I had big plans for the weekend…cleaning and organizing! Fun, huh!

I made some good progress on pesky little projects that I never want to do after a day of work: cleaning out the pantry, organizing cupboards, going through the girls’ clothes/closets, rearranging the playroom…and the list goes on and on!

While I did manage to get a lot accomplished, little man managed to keep me on my toes by making sure I remembered he was home with me as well.  While I was picking up, he was doing what he loves best…making a mess! Yep, what keeps him busy also keeps me busy!

I even found him on the kitchen table at one point.  Clearly I can’t take my eyes off of him for even a minute.  He is definitely a little boy through and through (and maybe part monkey)!

I do have to give him props though for sleeping until 10AM on Sunday!  I actually got to sleep in (well, except for the fact that I kept waking up wondering if he was still breathing in his crib!). When I went into his room he greeted me with a big hello!

The weather was so nice out too that we had to take advantage of a beautiful spring day and go for a little walk.  James LOVES being outside now and stares out the window saying “side” and “woof” as he looks for dogs.  He also likes to throw one major tantrum when it is time to come inside.  He let’s us know that is not what he wants to do!

All in all, we had a very enjoyable weekend together but were very happy when the rest of our family came home on Sunday night!
